Data-Driven Bioeconomy
The data intensive target sector selected for the DataBio project is the Data-Driven Bioeconomy, focusing in production of best possible raw materials from agriculture, forestry and fishery/aquaculture for the bioeconomy industry to produce food, energy and biomaterials taking into account also various responsibility and sustainability issues.
DATABIO shows the benefits of Big Data technologies in the raw material production in agriculture, forestry and fishery/aquaculture. The aim is to allow the bio-economy industry produce food, energy and biomaterials responsibly and sustainably.DATABIO takes advantage of existing partners’ infrastructure and solutions to deploy the Big DATABIO Platform. To support decision making in bio-economy business operations, DATABIO uses information flows centered around the use of proximal and remote sensors, in order to provide a streamlined Big Data Infrastructure for data discovery, retrieval, processing and visualisation. The selected pilots and concepts are transformed into pilot implementations using co-innovative approaches and tools. Based on the pilot results, new business opportunities are expected.

Impact
Agricultural productivity grows through bringing new resources into production (new land, extension of irrigation, or input intensification per hectare) or through raising the productivity of existing resources. In forestry, the ratio of value added generated within the forestry and logging sector compared with the forest area available for wood supply is one indicator of the productivity. In terms of fishery productivity, the project will achieve better stock management, improved energy efficiency and market adaptation.
